ABOUT
Come for One Thing.
Stay for Everything.
Discover Louisville started with a simple observation: most people come to Louisville for the Derby or the bourbon, and leave amazed by everything else they didn't expect. The food scene rivals cities twice its size. The neighborhoods each have their own personality. The parks were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. And the people genuinely want you to love their city as much as they do.
We built this guide to be the resource we wished existed. Not a list of tourist traps, but an insider's take on what makes Louisville one of America's most underrated cities. Every restaurant recommendation, bourbon trail tip, and neighborhood guide comes from people who actually live here.
Whether you're planning a first visit, coming back for Derby, or a local looking to rediscover your own city, we're here to help you find the good stuff.
Who's Behind This
Lewis Bertolucci
Owner & Editor
Lewis has called Louisville home for more than two decades, across four neighborhoods. His Louisville chapter started in 1999 at Bellarmine University in the Highlands, where he spent his undergrad years living on campus and off Bardstown Road. After graduating in 2003 he stayed in Louisville (Hurstbourne Estates, then Prospect) before relocating to Chicago in 2013 to help stand up a downtown office for Humana.
He spent eight years in Chicago, met his wife Hilary there, and moved back home to Louisville. Today he lives in Crestwood (Oldham County, just northeast of the city) with Hilary and their kids.
Lewis has written about Louisville for over a decade. First for Louisville.com, then Insider Louisville, and now as the owner and editor of Discover Louisville. He's attended seven Kentucky Derbies across the infield, the third turn, general admission, and the Turf Club, and he's covered Derby, bourbon, neighborhoods, and Louisville food culture as a working writer the entire time.
Roots: Elizabethtown, KY → Radcliffe, KY → Fort Knox (military family) → Louisville (1999–present, with a Chicago detour 2013–2021)
Education: Bellarmine University, 2003
